Setting up some servers
In order to allow Scoundrel to search for files, it needs some napster
servers to connect to. Since this is a Tech-Preview, this has not been
automated. You therefore need to turn to the networks-tab and create
a couple of connections using the New...-button. Now you need to
fill these connections with some info. Click on the server list-link.
This will open a browser window with the server list served by Napigator.
Now, copy-paste some IP numbers from the list (only one per network since
they are hooked up with each other) into the Server IP-edit boxes.
Enter a username&password in the right field (the opennap-servers
don't care about passwords, so you can put anything here. If you want
to connect to Napster you'll need to enter your user "real"
data. You can create a user if you need to.)
Configuring
The options found under the Configuration-tab can be set to
your liking. The interesting ones are:
- Base directory. This is where your files will go (in their
respective subdirectories under this one that is)
- Path to Winamp. If you want Winamp to start playing downloaded
material, make sure the path to Winamp is set correctly and that
the feature is enabled.
- Maximum concurrent downloads. Does what you think it should.
The bitrate filter is not active in the technology preview version.
Finding music
Under the Find-tab, Go... to Amazon.com and browse to
a page containing the description of a CD. The listbox at the bottom will
get populated with query-information (you might have to reload the page)
and the Get'em-button will get enabled.
Progress
Hopefully, shortly after posting some queries by clicking the Get'em-button,
some progress will be made. This can be observed under the Progress-tab.
Right-clicking on an item in the lists will let you remove it or view
its contents. In the download-list you can abort an operation or
skip (the) current transfer, in which case Scoundrel will
try the next suitable file found.
